The kneeboard should not noticeably affect a magnetic compass in normal use, because the compass is typically positioned far away from the pilot’s knee area.
The magnets inside the Dream Pilot kneeboard are arranged so that most of the magnetic field is concentrated locally around the kneeboard surface. In practical terms, the effective magnetic field drops off very quickly and does not extend more than a few centimeters from the kneeboard itself.
That said, as with any magnetic accessory, we recommend keeping it away from a magnetic compass or any remote magnetometer / magnetic detector. If your aircraft has sensitive magnetic instruments mounted unusually close to the pilot’s lap area, it is always best to test for compass deviation on the ground before flight.
In a typical Cessna / Piper-style cockpit setup, the kneeboard is far enough from the panel-mounted compass that it should not create a practical issue.
You can use 13-24481 or 13-24480, or any other generic metal clipboard should work as long as it is magnetic.
