Overview

AXIS™ Flight Displays bring Garmin’s next-generation avionics technology to experimental aircraft with a highly integrated, flexible system designed to serve as the center of your panel. Available in an expansive 11.6-inch landscape format and versatile 8-inch landscape and portrait formats, AXIS combines advanced primary flight display (PFD), multifunction display (MFD) and engine indication system (EIS) capabilities with responsive touchscreens, physical controls and a modernized Garmin interface.

Powered by faster processors and enhanced graphics, AXIS provides smooth panning and zooming while presenting critical flight information with exceptional clarity. Each display can be configured as a PFD or MFD, with EIS information available in either configuration. Full-screen and split-screen layouts allow pilots to customize the system for their mission, whether installing a single stand-alone display or building a larger, fully integrated AXIS panel.

On the PFD, pilots can view primary flight data, customizable data fields and a horizontal situation indicator with an embedded moving map or traffic display. Enhanced Synthetic Vision Technology provides a three-dimensional representation of terrain, obstacles, runways and taxiways, while pathway guidance helps visualize enroute legs, course intercepts and the aircraft’s projected flight path. Three-dimensional SafeTaxi® diagrams provide a clear view of the airport environment, including runways, taxiways, hangars and surrounding buildings.

The MFD features dynamic mapping with available overlays for ADS-B traffic, weather, terrain and other essential information. An intuitive radial menu provides quick access to waypoint details and flight plan changes, while terminal charts and additional system data help improve situational awareness throughout every phase of flight. Each AXIS display also includes an HDMI input for live camera video monitoring.

AXIS 11.6-inch displays are available with optional built-in IFR GPS, COMM, NAV/COMM and audio panel capabilities, consolidating essential navigation and communication functions into a single unit. The integrated COMM supports standby frequency monitoring and 8.33 kHz channel spacing, while the built-in audio panel provides a four-place intercom, dual-COMM switching, COMM playback and Bluetooth® connectivity for music and phone calls. This all-in-one configuration can eliminate the need for a traditional radio stack, reduce aircraft weight and simplify panel wiring and installation.

The 8-inch landscape and portrait displays offer flexible installation options for panels where space is limited. They can operate as stand-alone PFDs or as additional displays within a larger AXIS system, including dedicated MFD, EIS or split-screen configurations. The 8-inch displays use the same panel cutout and mounting points as the 7-inch G3X Touch™ display, while the 11.6-inch AXIS display maintains similar compatibility with the corresponding G3X Touch installation. AXIS can also use many existing Garmin sensors, modules and components, providing a streamlined upgrade path for equipped experimental aircraft.

An integrated engine indication system provides detailed, real-time information to help pilots manage engine operation and identify developing issues. Large, color-coded gauges clearly show normal ranges, cautions and exceedances, while additional tools include numerical bar gauges, fuel computer functions, alerts and lean assist mode. AXIS EIS supports most normally aspirated or turbocharged four- to six-cylinder piston engines, along with radial and turbine-powered experimental aircraft when equipped with the appropriate sensors and interface hardware.

Built-in Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth technologies provide convenient connectivity with the Garmin Pilot™ and ForeFlight Mobile apps for sharing GPS position, traffic, weather, flight plans and other data. Database Concierge supports wireless database transfers from a compatible mobile device, while a built-in USB-C port allows database loading, flight-log transfers and device charging at up to 27 watts. Compatibility with the GDL® 60 datalink and PlaneSync™ technology will add capabilities such as automatic database downloads, remote aircraft-status checks and automatic flight and engine-log uploads.

AXIS also supports a range of Garmin safety-enhancing technologies. Runway Occupancy Awareness uses compatible ADS-B traffic information to alert pilots to potential runway conflicts, while optional SurfaceWatch™ technology provides visual and aural alerts that help prevent takeoffs or landings on the wrong runway or a taxiway. A dedicated EMER button provides immediate access to emergency tools, including Smart Glide™ technology, which can identify a suitable airport following an engine-power loss and, when paired with a compatible Garmin autopilot, help fly the aircraft toward that destination at best-glide speed. The system can also load the selected airport’s CTAF frequency and provide quick access to the 7700 transponder code.

Designed with input from Garmin’s Team X experimental-aircraft specialists, AXIS simplifies installation through integrated functions, built-in inputs and outputs, reduced wiring requirements and compatibility with many existing Garmin components. The result is a powerful, scalable flight-display system that delivers advanced capabilities, streamlined cockpit integration and the flexibility to create a panel tailored to your aircraft and flying needs.
