After searching many other promised options.... the WAT Orion 550 fit the bill perfectly. In replacing the rudder on my PA-22-150 Tripacer, I wanted to also upgrade the tail position light as new with the new rudder. I bought and returned many other lights that claim to fit. but were not even close without major modifications to new rudder. Finally I found the WAT Orion 550. I talked with reps at WAT who were extremely helpful in my making the decision to try the Orion 550. I bought the Orion 550 and upon receiving it it checked the fit to my new Piper Rudder and it was a PERFECT FIT. It us as simple as you only need to Connect the wires and mount light directly to the frame with 2 - #4 screws.... it can be installed directly on to the fabric covered rudder frame.... The unit is perfectly fitted , ingeniously designed, well constructed and adds a very attractive and complete tail LED tail position light and strobe anti collision light in one attractive and a compact low profile light with a really big feature... I am very impressed with the Orion 550 and strongly recommend it...

These are not required for the OR550 but the OR550 can fit into any of these light plates.
Per Whelen: We do not have a lumens spec, the output for the 01-0772070V01 is to meet the TSO-C96a Class II anti-collision light spec which is 400 Effective Candle Power and the Navigation light is rated at a TSO-C30c requirements for a white tail navigation light.
The power draw is identical to the ORION 500 Series. The main difference is the overall size of this light and that it has a much shallower heat sync in the back so it can fit all of the legacy products footprint.
Yes, this light is FAA TSO Approved.
Yes the Orion 550 will fit onto a Mooney M20J. We have added the drawing to the Documents section of the web page for download and review.
This only comes in 14v at this time. Whelen recommends the Orion 500 for a 24/28v application.
No special cable needed. Simple 18 awg wire is all that is required.
The orientation does matter on the 11-18745. This is designed to be mounted in a vertical orientation with the screw holes located at 12 O'clock and 6 O'clock.
We have no data supporting this items use in automotive applications. It is intended for aircraft install.
There are separate power wires for the navigation and anti-collision lights, so it could be wired separately.
