Overview

FAA REQUIRED STATEMENT:
“The conditions and test required for TSO approval of this article are minimum performance standards. Those installing this article either on or within a specific type or class of aircraft must determine that the article installation conditions are within the TSO standards. The article may be installed only according to 14 CFR part 43 or the applicable airworthiness requirements.”

An STC is required for installation. For STC installation, KITS are sold separately and are unique per airframe. Use the search feature button of WHAT BATTERY FITS MY VEHICLE button and then choose CERTIFIED AIRCRAFT to find you exact kit needed for your airframe.

EarthX is excited to provide an upgraded solution for one of the oldest technologies still used in general aviation with the FAA TSO approved ETX900-TSO model lithium battery! This lithium iron phosphate battery will provide you a massive weight savings, increased life span, and more cranking power. Aircraft manufacturers are making the switch to this type of technology with Type Certificated aircraft, and we are adding hundreds of aircraft models to the AML STC, which we provide to you free of charge.

If you need the 8130-3 form for international orders, it is an additional fee of $150 per battery and must be requested prior to shipping.

The FAA approved 12V ETX900-TSO designed for certified aircraft. An STC is required for installation.
This battery has electronic protections (BMS) and built in thermal runaway containment and venting ability built in. The ETX900-TSO meets all of the DO-311a and DO-160 requirements for a lithium battery in aircraft.

Our ETX battery series is fully protected by an integrated battery management system (BMS) that protects the cell’s from over discharge, over charge, short circuit, temperature, plus cell balancing to ensure charge levels are equal. Additionally, our ETX Hundred series aircraft batteries have redundant electronic circuits and battery fault indication. This battery also has fault indication that can be programed into your EFIS or wired to an LED on your panel. The fault indicator alerts you to the state of charge and state of health of the battery. (Please see manual for details)

Benefits

  • EarthX lithium batteries are an excellent option for the aviation industry. Our experienced team develops our batteries for lasting performance and safety through all types of use. In our mission to create the best lithium battery on the market, we source only the highest quality materials to deliver a product you can trust.

  • Beyond performance and quality, EarthX is veteran-owned and operated in the United States where we offer comprehensive customer service to address every requirement.
  • As a veteran-owned, U.S.-based company, we’re proud to provide the batteries you require for your experimental aircraft.

  • Advantages Of Utilizing EarthX Batteries For Certified Aircraft
  • EarthX is a trusted provider of lithium batteries, and the batteries themselves provide several benefits for certified aircraft, including enhanced performance during take off, in flight or landing:
  • Reduced Weight: Achieve overall weight reduction for improved efficiency.
  • Increased Climb Rate: Experience faster and smoother ascent.
  • Shorter Takeoff Roll: Enjoy quicker and more responsive takeoffs.
  • Reliability in All Conditions: Benefit from worry-free starts in both hot and cold weather.
  • No Freezing, No Acid, No Sulphation: Eliminate concerns over freezing, acid leakage, and sulphation.
  • Advanced Technology: Utilize a state-of-the-art battery management system that alerts you to any anomalies, allowing for timely mitigation.
  • Increase useful load: carry more essentials or passengers.
  • Ease of installation: With the STC approval, we provide installation kits with our batteries to make the installation process as straightforward as possible. Whether you’re introducing a lithium battery to your certified aircraft for the first time, or you’re replacing, you can expect a quick and easy installation.
  • Lightweight material: EarthX lithium batteries are lightweight, especially when compared to lead acid counterparts. This lighter weight makes the process of installing it easier and improves the overall handling of your aircraft. Increase your payload, decrease your gas needs, it’s a win win product.
  • Trustworthiness: Trust and safety are key components for certified aircraft batteries. EarthX Batteries have a built-in Battery Management System (BMS) that monitors performance and protects the battery from overcharging or over discharging and short circuit protection. The BMS is also key to the longevity of the battery — even with heavy use.
  • Storage capacity: LiFePo4 batteries can use 100% of their storage capacity, meaning your aircraft can reap the benefits of full power after a charge.
  • Fast charging: Lithium batteries charge quickly, allowing you to fully recharge a battery in much less time so you can get to flying in no time. Additionally, these batteries discharge at a much slower rate in storage so the need to recharge is minimized.
  • Cranking power: Lithium batteries offer consistent cranking power that will not drop-off. Regardless of the temperatures or environment you start your aircraft in, you can expect high cranking performance when you start up.

  • Our Commitment To Powering Aviation
  • At EarthX, innovation is the core of our mission. We exemplify this commitment in the aviation industry by being the first company in the world to offer a 12V FAA TSO approved lithium battery. With the benefits of these batteries, certified aircraft can vastly improve performance beyond what we’ve seen in the industry.

  • Our existing TSO approved models (EarthX also has a 24V FAA TSO approved lithium battery) is only the beginning of our aviation innovations. We have more TSO approved batteries in development to diversify our LiFePo4 battery applications.

  • In the near future, you can expect to see more of EarthX in the general aviation market. Keep your eye out for new aircraft that come standard with EarthX lithium batteries — straight from the manufacturer. This is our goal, and we intend to stick with it through our commitment to battery development.

  • We also support individual aircraft owners. To install an EarthX battery in your aircraft, download the installation manual and the STC, which is offered free of charge for your airframe.

Overall Im very pleased with the product. Definitely notice the increase speed in turning the engine over than my Concorde! Love the weight saving in the tail. Now I carry my 20lb Jackery 1000 Power station for airplane camping. Easy installation instructions. I wish Spruce would sell the kit also. I had to order the Cessna 182K kit (SKU: ETX900-TSO-35-KIT) from EarthX to get the foam and vent hoses.

So, be prepared to be surprised at the footprint of this battery. Going from a Concord to the EarthX is night and day. Cranking amps are way up, charging system runs strong, I have every confidence this battery could keep the electronics running for a good amount of time in the event of a charging field failure. Be warned, it’s footprint is MUCH smaller than what you’re used to. You will need to secure this in your battery box (we used high density foam to isolate it in the center). Overall, can’t recommend upgrading to this enough.

Battery is not suitable for a firewall install. The manufacturer does not list this information in their STC as they should but hide it in their website FAQ.

Q: Is this EarthX ETX-900 TSO battery a replacement battery for Cessna U206B?

It has the correct power specs for the aircraft but it would need a 337 for install.

Q: So, who provides the STC with the EarthX ETX-900 battery?

As the first company to achieve the goal of receiving approval on a lithium battery, EarthX has what is called a FAA TSOa certification. We hold the design approval and manufacturing approval to produce this battery. At release, we will not have any Supplemental Type Certificate (STC)s yet. For you to install this in your aircraft, you will need to get a field approval with FAA Form 337 for your aircraft or wait for the STCs to follow.

Q: Is this EarthX ETX-900 TSO 14V Aircraft Lithium Battery a legal, direct replacement for a Baron 95BE55?

No, a 337 would be required for this application.
